Discover the ‘REAL AUSTRALIA’ in outback wa

The WA Station Stay Collective is a curated selection of ‘trade-ready’ agritourism enterprises located in the Midwest and Gascoyne regions of Western Australia. Most properties are working stations spanning a 1/4 million acres and farming cattle, sheep and goats. During the winter months of April to October (for most), the stations switch focus to tourism, offering guests remote outback experiences accessible to major WA tourism towns and attractions, a diverse range of accommodation from seasonal tents to grand old homesteads, paddock to plate dining experiences and bookable guided tours.

Outback Accommodation

The Stations in the Collective have elevated the outback accommodation experience through re-purposing existing infrastructure and re-imagining guest experiences. Accommodation choices include:

  • Hosted Homestead stays

  • Re-purposed Stockman’s and Shearer’s Quarters

  • Self-contained Cottages

  • Glamping Bell Tents and Seasonal Eco Tents

  • Group campgrounds

Outback Station Tours

There’s no doubt that visitors are fascinated with life on the land and the stories of the families who open their homes to guests. A station stay offers visitors a unique opportunity to engage with the station owners, witness daily station life and immerse themselves in the beauty of a vast landscape. Station experiences include:

  • Guided Historic Station Tours

  • Sunset Canapes and Stargazing

  • 4WD Self-guided Trails

  • Walks, Birdwatching, Wildflowers and Fishing

Outback Dining

From self-catering camp kitchens, to chef-prepared intimate meals, the Stations provide diverse dining experiences, united by the provenance of local produce and a celebration of ‘Paddock to Plate’ gastronomic delights. Dining Experiences include:

  • Campfire Burger Nights

  • Barista coffee and daily cafe meals

  • Hosted Dining and Events

  • Licensed Station Restaurants

About The WA Station Stay Collective

WA Station Stays have existed as a marketing group for a number of years. Since 2021, the WA Station Stay Collective has evolved from a proactive approach to tourism development initiated by the Regional Tourism Organisations, Australia’s Golden Outback and Australia’s Coral Coast, supported by Tourism WA funding, to grow visitor experiences and tourism operator capability to connect with the wider tourism trade.

Over a period of 3 years, the WA Station Stays have worked in a one-on-one mentoring capacity through DTM’s PRIME (c) Mentor Programme to achieve their agritourism aspirations, enabling the Stations to diversify their income streams through providing quality outback experiences beyond traditional camping. Each Station offers a unique visitor experience on their property, whether that be their location, their approach to dining and visitor services or their focus to authentic outback touring. Whilst the PRIME programme is a structured approach to capability building, it also embraces a tailored approach to development of new product, improved business practices and marketing capability to allow the Stations to build upon their own unique identity.

Importantly, the consistent work with the Stations has enabled them to invest in accommodation supply, adding more beds in regional areas where accommodation investment is constrained. Their growth has created regional jobs and added value to regional visitor economies.

Through mentoring, the Stations now understand how to engage with the wider tourism industry and this select group of businesses are now ready to welcome guests to their regions from across the globe.

Further information about working with the Collective is available for tourism industry partners.
